Early Intervention Services
Early Intervention services are provided to children less than 3 years of age who have a physical or mental disability, or are at risk for certain delays or disorders. Services are funded by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Occupational therapists (OTs) work with children and their families in homes, day care centers, and the community. OTs spend time talking with the child’s family to learn about the child’s strengths as well as their needs. OTs look at daily routines and activities, such as sleeping, eating, dressing, play, and socializing with family and other children. 
Several specialists often work together to provide Early Intervention services.
They may include:
- Early childhood special educators
- Nurses and doctors
- Psychologists
- Physical therapists
- Social workers
- Speech language pathologists
- Hearing and vision specialists
